HRC Endorses Beto O’Rourke for U. S. Senate

HRC Endorsements

On April 11th, HRC endorsed Beto O’Rourke, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.  Other HRC endorsements include our very own Federal Club members:

  • Julie Johnson, candidate for Texas House District 115 and
  • Mark Phariss, candidate for Texas Senate District 8.

There may be additional endorsements after the May 22nd runoff.   We will publish a listing of all HRC endorsed candidates this summer.
While Beto, Mark and Julie are not in the upcoming run-offs, please keep these dates in mind.  Regardless of which candidate each of us supports in the run-offs, it is critical that we vote!

HRC has Boots on the Ground in Texas

We sometimes hear that members feel all of their money goes to Washington, D.C. and Texas does not directly benefit.  During the past year, HRC has put seven field organizers across Texas who work to mobilize opposition to any anti-LGBTQ legislation.  Dallas has its own field organizer, Criss Ruiz, who lives in Dallas and heads up HRC’s involvement in getting fair-minded candidates elected to office.
Even though the Texas legislature is not in session right now, HRC continues to work alongside Equality Texas, ACLU of Texas, Texas Freedom Network, the Transgender Education Network of Texas and others on the ground to battle against dangerous or harmful bills that attack the dignity of LGBTQ Texans. As a coalition, we will stand together, we will support and comfort one another, and we will continue to work together until we defeat every bill that discriminates against LGBTQ Texans.
There are any number of ways that you can participate in the upcoming elections to ensure we are electing equality minded candidates. To learn more, go to HRC’s Equality Voter Action Center.

DFW Steering Committee Big Winner at HRC’s Equality Convention

Our DFW HRC Steering Committee snagged 9 individual awards and 8 community awards at the 2018 HRC Equality Convention held in Washington D.C. March 22-25.  For those who have never been to the HRC Equality Convention, it is held in March each year and is open to anyone who wants to learn more about HRC and how they can become more engaged.  There are a number of training tracks, luncheons with nationally recognized speakers and time to socialize and exchange ideas with community leaders across the country.
The convention culminates with an Awards ceremony on Saturday evening where outstanding individuals and committees are recognized for their work throughout the year. Hats off to all who contributed!

Meet our HRC Dallas Ft. Worth Board of Directors

Just as we’ve highlighted some of the Steering Committee and Governing Committee members and Governors, this week we want to introduce the Directors who represent us.  Across the country there are approximately 55 directors with 4 representing DFW:  Morgan Cox, Anne Fay, Jim Harrison and Robb Webb.
HRC and the HRC Foundation each have a Board of Directors, which is the governing body of the respective organizations.  Members of the Boards of Directors are responsible for overseeing the organizations’ activities and to oversee the members’ interests. The responsibilities are carried out through the actions of certain Committee, examples of which are the Finance Committee, the Risk, Compliance and Audit Committee, and the Board Performance and Management Committee.
The primary board member duties are:
 1) a duty of care
2) a duty of loyalty
3) a duty of obedience
Members of the Board are responsible for the overall activities of the organization, but do not direct the day-to-day management of the organization, which is the responsibility of the HRC(F) staff.   The HRC(F) Boards meet three times a year: once in the Spring, once in the Summer and once in the Fall.
