The HRC Family’s Tragic Loss

July 30, 2014 by Chad Griffin, President

Though HRC reaches millions of people every day, we touch those millions of lives through the work of just a few hundred full-time staff here at headquarters and around the country. Every single one of those people is essential. We work together as a family. And the loss of any one person affects all of us.

Yesterday afternoon, we learned that Tedd Lesch, HRC’s associate director of Federal Club, has passed away. Tedd was an incredible asset to HRC, bringing a career of merchandising and sales experience to this organization, and skillfully stewarding one of our most important and member-driven revenue streams for more than two years. Prior to joining HRC’s staff full-time, he was a long-time volunteer in Southern California as well as a member of HRC’s Board of Governors.

Most importantly, Tedd was admired and loved by his colleagues and all who worked with him across the country. Since joining HRC, I was fortunate to spend many hours on the road with Tedd, meeting HRC communities from coast to coast. His legacy of leadership is incredible.

Tedd didn’t just do his job, he lived and breathed HRC. Whether volunteering at a pride, a dinner, or an event here at the building, he was always willing to lend a helping hand and a wry smile. Tedd helped make this workplace feel like a welcoming community for new staff and HRC veterans alike.

This news came as a shock to all of us. The hearts of the HRC family are with Tedd's family and loved ones today.
