Bipartisan Support for ENDA Builds

June 12, 2014 by Jennifer Pike, Public Policy Advocate

Today, Democratic Representative Jim Costa (CA-16) became the 205th co-sponsor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.  Just yesterday, Republican Rep. Frank LoBiondo (NJ-2) co-sponsored as well.

Americans across the country – and increasingly in the halls of Congress – understand that equality in the workplace isn’t a partisan issue.  In fact, 85 percent of Democrats and 70 percent of Republicans support LGBT workplace protections.

Rep. Costa has been a long-time supporter of LGBT equality.  He voted to repeal the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, and voted in favor of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act.

HRC is a lead partner in Americans for Workplace Opportunity, the bipartisan campaign to pass ENDA.  Members of Congress need to hear from their constituents why the passage of ENDA is important to them.  Call on your Representative to support ENDA now.
