Utah Senator Orrin Hatch: “Gay Marriage Is Going to be Law of the Land”

Today Republican Utah Senator Orrin Hatch admitted that while he does not support same-sex marriage, marriage equality nationwide is an almost certain reality.

"Let’s face it, anybody who does not believe that gay marriage is going to be the law of the land just hasn’t been observing what’s going on," Hatch said Wednesday on KSL Radio’s "Doug Wright Show." "There is a question whether [the courts] should be able to tell the states what they can or cannot do with something as important as marriage, but the trend right now in the courts is to permit gay marriage and anybody who doesn’t admit that just isn’t living in the real world."

Support for marriage equality is at an all-time high of 59 percent, according to a Washington Post/ABC News poll. Meanwhile, loving, committed same-sex couples all across the country are challenging state marriage bans and discriminatory statues to secure marriage equality in their home states.

Indeed the spotlight on marriage grows ever brighter, but much work still remains. To learn more about the changing marriage landscape, visit http://americansformarriageequality.org
